Victorian Military chest
This Victorian Military chest was made circa 1870. NOW SOLD
It is made of teak with brass corners and the rare plate inset handles.
This would have been commissioned by a British officer whilst at his posting in India.
Teak was a popular choice for timber as this has the qualities of being strong and also resistant to sea water, ideal for when this was to be transported overseas as it was lashed to sailing vessels.
It is made in the 2 sections to allow it to be transported with ease.
Its brass corners being of a good gauge and secured into place, these were to protect the chests corners as it was being transported.
To each side you have the original carrying handles, these are painted steel.
Imagine the joy of ownership, the conversations that you will have with family and friends as you wonder at the episodes this would have experienced, if only it could talk!!
