George III walnut chest on chest with sunburst inlay
Here we have this walnut chest on chest with the drawers cross-banded to the edge, and the bottom drawer with an inlaid sunburst. NOW SOLD
The chest on chest (also commonly known as a tall-boy) made in 2 parts.
The top section with the desirable feature of fluted canted corners and fitted 3 drawers across the top and then 3 graduated drawers below.
This chest on chest would have been made in a country workshop where it was common to have the fronts finished in walnut and the rest of the carcass in oak.
These would have been commissioned by a wealthy farmer or businessman who had seen similar made in London and then asked the local cabinetmaker to make one that looked similar.
