This Victorian burr walnut pop-up Davenport desk was made circa 1865.

These desks are known as Harlequin desks but also pop-up desks as on a release of a button the stationary cabinet automatically pops-up.

This high-end example has the must have features of the carved cabriole legs to the front and the ‘piano top’ lid that covers the sliding writing surface. It is also made in the best burr walnut, rather than a figured cheaper walnut.

Having the usual set of drawers to the right-hand side and the dummy drawers to the left, all with the original knob handles. The piano lid opens on a hinge that reveals the sliding writing surface with its adjustable reading slope and a further storage compartment and interior drawers.
