Victorian walnut secretaire Wellington chest
This Victorian walnut secretaire Wellington chest would have been made circa 1870.NOW SOLD
Made of figured walnut and with its original turned knob handles.
The Wellington chest has 5 drawers, as well as the secretaire drawer, that drops forward by pressing 2 release buttons. Once the drawer front is down you then have a baize writing area as well as fitted drawers and pigeon holes.
A very rare feature is the lift up lid, that again is released by a button. When open you have an area for storage. Originally this area probably was used for storing ledgers.
There is a locking bar on the right hand side, that when locked secured all the drawers, this meant that only one key is required to lock all the drawers.
The chest has 2 drawers under the top, below them a secretaire drawer that has 2 dummy drawer fronts and a further 3 graduated drawers below.
To each side of the top drawer is a solid carved walnut acanthus leaf.
