A British Officer would have commissioned this military chest to take on campaign. It was made in 2 parts for ease of transportation around the British Empire around 1870-1900. Packed in its 2 parts into packing cases, and then loaded onto wagons to be transported by mule or .
The upper section has a box drawer each side of the central secretaire drawer, that drops forward by pressing a release button each side.
Opened it reveals the original leather and gilt tooled inset writing surface, pigeon holes and drawers.
Below these drawers, is a large drawer that was to store uniforms.
The bottom section has 2 drawers and stands on the original screw in turned oak legs.
If only this campaign/military chest could talk!!! Imagine the stories it could convey.
