This Victorian inlaid Satinwood desk was made circa 1880. NOW SOLD
Made in a prestigious workshop, probably Edwards & Roberts, who were known to produce the best quality items, specialising in fine inlay work.
The cabinetmaker would have taken time selecting the finest Satinwood before starting this wonderful writing desk.
It has the original burgundy inset writing surface with the lidded stationary boxes to each side. The lids lift but also the interior slides forward. There are brass galleries around the top of the boxes and the joining shelf.
Fitted a bow fronted box drawer to each side of the central concave drawer above the kneehole.
All the drawers are profusely inlaid sprays of foliage and have the original cast brass swing handles.
The square tapering legs with castors under. To the top of the leg is an inlaid panel inlaid with an urn.
