A superb Edwardian mahogany Carlton House desk.

Fitted its original brass swing handles, this desk has all the most wonderful features you would like in a Carlton House desk.

The antiqued gilt tooled leather writing surface with a writing slope on an adjustable ratchet, is surrounded by
the desks superstructure with bowed cupboards to the corners and 2 flights of small drawers to the center.

The cross-banded top surface having a brass gallery and the brass inset letter slots and a further 2 banks of drawers.

The table with 3 drawers along the front and standing on square mahogany ebony line inlaid tapering legs ending in brass cup castors. The desk is made of top grade materials.

Carlton House desks got their name after Carlton House which was in the 18th century the London residence for the Prince of Wales (who later became George IV).

George Hepplewhite is said to have designed a desk of this form for this house and so the name came into being.

This kind of desk is sometimes also known as a Carlton House writing table.
