This Victorian teak military chest was made for a British officer to carry small valuable items and journals on his arduous journeys and postings in the East. NOW SOLD
Teak was the first choice when choosing timber for its adventures, as it was not destroyed by salt water and a durable hardwood This being especially useful as it was going to be transported on sailing vessels. To each end there is a brass carrying handle.
The lid lifts to reveal an open storage area and a small compartment for small precious items.
The wonderful brass corners were added for extra protection, this example with especially high-quality fittings, that are screwed in, not nailed as the lesser quality ones were.
This would make a great item as a small coffee table or could be placed between 2 chairs in a drawing room or used good storage around the home.
Imagine the pleasure ownership of this will bring, the conversations that will be sparked by your family and friends as they wonder at the scrapes and adventures it would have gone through.
