This Edwardian inlaid mahogany cylinder desk was made in the Edwardian age of elegance, circa 1900. NOW SOLD
I attribute this to have been made I the Maple & co workshops. The quality of manufacture and design give all the hallmarks of it being from a prestigious cabinetmaker. The drawer linings in fine mahogany and the satinwood crossbanding has been selected and executed in the best manner.
The flame mahogany cylinder roll rolls open by pulling the work surface forward by using the grip that is on its underside. The cylinder front then automatically opens as you draw the writing surface forward, just like magic!!
This reveals the interior that is fitted with inkbottles, pigeonholes drawers and the original inset writing surface.
Above the cylinder roll are a set of 3 external drawers with the lovely flame mahogany surface above. It is polished and finished on all sides and so doesn’t need to be put against a wall.
Under the cylinder roll top are a pair of box drawers each side of a wider drawer above the kneehole.
It stands on tapering strung inlaid legs that are joined by a stretcher. An extra sign of this desk’s quality is that the legs and stretchers are inlaid with the box wood stringing on all sides.
Imagine working at this quality and elegant desk and the enjoyment it will give you. Having the roll top has the extra advantage of instant tidy as you can just slide the working surface back in and the cylinder roll closes and any of your work is not on show.
