This Antique Colonial teak brass cornered trunk was made in the middle of the 19thc. NOW SOLD
Originally owned by Colonialist or wealthy merchant to use to safely store valuable silks and valuables.
It is fitted with attractive chased and shaped brass corners, that were not only for decoration but also to provide strength for its arduous treks around the trading routes in the East.
It would have been loaded carefully on a wagon or ship to be transported to various destinations.
The lid opens to reveal a large storage area as well as a compartment for smaller valuables. This compartment has a sliding floor to open to a larger area for storing secretly other larger small valuable and personal items.
The chest stands on a decorative shaped plinth.
