19thc. large mahogany brass-bound lapdesk NOW SOLD

Here we have this un-usual late Georgian lap-desk with good flush brass inset corners and carrying handles.

Made with the best grade mahogany of the day.

This is a substantial example of this type of desk and would have been made for use by an Sea Captain or Officer when travelling on campaign.

The top lifts to reveal a mahogany surface that in turn folds down to reveal the baize lined writing slope. This lifts again to reveal a storage area that has removable sides that hide the secret drawers.
