Victorian oak writing table
This Victorian oak writing table was made circa 1865. NOW SOLD
I attribute this to have been made in the workshops of Gillow ( who made a smaller chamber table with the central lifting flap as this one shown here) If not Gillows it would be Holland Sons who again were prestige cabinetmakers of the time.
The top wit a fine inset leather writing surface, the wonderful lifting flap that reveals the pen tray and the original ink bottles both remarkably still with their turned oak lids.
The inset leather is hand dyed and gilt tooled, then finished to look original, this is an exceedingly difficult and skilled process.
The Victorian oak writing desk is finished all the way around with dummy drawers to the back, this means it can be used away from a wall.
It stands on fine turned legs that flow into the flush fitting cup castors.
