This Victorian camphorwood and leather ottoman was first made circa 1870
Here we have this wonderful and very useful camphorwood chest with brass carrying handles to each end.
Originally this military chest would have been purchased by a British officer to take on campaigns around the East. It would have been lashed to a mule ,camel or wagon to where the Officer was stationed, after the long journey by sea.
The buttoned antiqued leather lid that lifts using a pair of gothic brass ring handles to reveal a large storage space. The upholsterer has used original brass military buttons to give this a very military flavour.
The body with large brass strap corners, that were inserted to give much protection during its travels on campaigns around the East in the 19thc.
The later leather top in a fine leather that is hand dyed and then antiqued by our own craftsmen.
These make wonderful coffee tables as well as fantastic storage pieces in a bedroom an alcove, or a landing.
