George I walnut chest

George I walnut chest

This George I walnut chest was made circa 1720. NOW SOLD

Here we offer you this wonderful George I walnut chest that is of wonderful colour and patina.

The top with a deep cross band running around the top and then a quartered panel of book matched walnut (pieces of veneer are set that they face each other like the pages in a book. This creates a pleasing, symmetrical pattern.) inside arched herringbone borders.

It is fitted with 2 small drawers at the top and a further 3 graduated drawers under. The drawers with herringbone banding running around the edge and further subtle herringbone in bow shape each side of the brass engraved plate handles.

Running around the frame of each drawer are delicate half round end grain mouldings, and similar ogee mouldings made in sections. This gives the chest a lot of character and just adds another special feature to enjoy.

The cabinetmaker chose fine walnut to use when constructing this chest of drawers and had an eye to realise that is perfect for this piece.

Often this type of chest is called Queen Anne but as this has the straight bracket feet. I date it a few years later when this type of foot came into fashion.

Imagine the pleasure of ownership this Antique walnut will give you, and also the envious glances it will get from family and friends
