Victorian leather ottoman
This Victorian leather ottoman was made circa 1870. NOW SOLD
Originally covered in fabric this Ottoman we have covered in fine leather hide with an upholstered buttoned lifting lid. This lid lifts to reveal a full storage area lined in black fabric and a leather strap stay to hold the lid when it is opened.
At each end you have the original brass swing carrying handles and further one at the centre of the lid for you to access inside.
The leather work is done by our highly skilled tradesmen who cover the Ottoman in russet high-quality hide before the process begins. The first job once the leather is applied to the body is to hand dye the surface. Once it is dyed the long process of bringing the ottoman up to its antique antiqued finish.
Around all the leading edges we have tapped in individually by hand the brass headed studs that help apply the hide to the surface. This takes skill and a lot of patience.
Imagine how much you can store in this wonderful large open area.
These are not only fantastic practical items they are also wonderful to look at and can be used in the centre of a drawing room to be used as a coffee table or in a more traditional position at the end of a bed, in an alcove or as a hall seat, in fact you will find multiple places to put this. One thing for sure you will not want it hidden away as it is sure to be much admired by friends and family.
