This Victorian inlaid walnut oval loo table was made circa 1870. NOW SOLD
These tables are called ‘Loo tables’ because they are named after the fashionable parlour game of Loo. The upwardly mobile middle and professional classes would invite family and friends to play the game, and in doing so wished to show off their wealth and success, therefore they would purchase a high-quality table that they all could sit around as they played the game.
The oval burr walnut top with a double band of box wood stringing, made into a pattern to four corners.
The base made of solid walnut with the carved cabriole legs coming off the central turned column.
