This Victorian captain’s desk chair was made circa 1880. NOW SOLD
The chairmaker selected Elm with a lot of figuring and interest to the timber.
The seat is fruitwood with beech turnings under the arms that have good hand grips.
These chairs provide great social history as they originally were known as smokers bow chairs, where after hard days graft the owner would sit and relax to smoke a pipe to unwind.
As time has gone on, they have now become known as captain’s chairs as they are perfect to use behind a desk.
