This set of 8 Regency rosewood dining chairs were made circa 1820.
The chairs have curved bar backs and sabre legs. Sabre legs were fashionable in this period in celebration of Britain’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
The sable legs on this set are particularly sophisticated as the are nt just sable shaped but have the extra refinement of fine carving to the blocks at the top of the legs as well as the scroll toes and a leaf carving above.
The pierced central splats of the back of the chairs have scrolls and acanthus leaves.
The chairs have drop in seats with a striped material.
