This pair of Edwardian captains’ chair were made circa 1900
This wonderful example has its lovely patina and perfect colour for a chair of this design.
Importantly it has the double cross stretcher that joins the side rails, these makes them most durable to the stresses of everyday use.
The bow back with the hand grips, and the solid elm seat, and the pierced waisted centre splat.
These make great desk chairs.
When I first started in business 46 years ago, these were then known as smokers bow chairs, in time as cigarette smoking has become less fashionable, the name has morphed into captains’ chair.
