This oak refectory draw leaf table was made circa 1910.
Refectory tables got their name from the refectory table, that were used in the refectory rooms that were dining areas in Monasteries.
The design being so practical and attractive, that they became popular, so the cabinetmakers made smaller versions for the home.
It stands on carved bulbous supports with cross feet and the central joining bar running down the centre.
The oak top that is an oak frame with the central panel. Under the table, the leaves are stored at each end and ready to be pulled out so that you can have a larger dining table when required.
This draw leaf can be used without the leaves in place or one or both leaves in use. Making this a very versatile dining table, it is also a good narrow width, something that will be perfect for a dining area that is not wide.
