Victorian mahogany horse shoe shaped desk chair
We are pleased to offer you this Victorian mahogany horse shoe shaped desk chair. NOW SOLD
This was made circa 1880 in a fine mahogany.
It is in the desirable horseshoe shape, a design that makes it very comfortable to sit at.
We have upholstered this in fine leather, and is hand dyed by our craftsmen.
The brass studs that secure the leather to the frame, are tapped in individually, something that not only takes skill but also lots of patience.
The horseshoe shaped arms are supported by well turned spindles, that add strength but also add a great decorative look.
The well turned solid front legs ending with brass castors.
Imagine sitting at this chair behind your desk as you work. It is bound to attract favourable comments and your family and friends will wish to try it out.
When this was first made, we should wonder what the news of the day was, and what world events were being played out. This was the time of the ‘Great London fog’ had it cleared, or was the capital of Great Britain still engulfed by it?
The alarming news that the Boars had declared independence, an event that went on to trigger the First Boar War.
On a lighter note did the owner read the reviews of Gilbert and Sullivan’s first showing in London, of the comic opera ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ or read about the first cricket Test Match to be played in the UK? It was such an eventful period in history.
This antique desk chair is unique to Hingstons Antiques and cannot be found elsewhere. It has the Hingstons Antiques brand plate, that guarantees it is of the correct quality to be entered into our stock.
