The highly skilled cabinetmaker used a design that included all the best features of the Elizabethan period that you would require when purchasing such a cabinet.
At the end of the 20thc. and the start of the 20thc. there was a tremendous revival of Elizabethan and Jacobean styles in the modern home. The supply of original items on the market was not there and so the best cabinetmakers were commissioned to make fine items to suit the market.
The canted top section with a solid oak turned bulbous cup and cover support both ends to each side of the central cupboard door. The door with superb hand carving and an inlaid floral panel.
The base consists of a pair of cupboard doors that open to reveal a shelf and open storage.
The doors are divided into 3 panels consisting of 2 plain upright panels and an inlaid panel along the top.
At the leading edges you have examples of a carver’s skill with various symmetrical designs and foliate design.
This was originally sold at Harrods by family repute and was in a large country home near Marlborough.
This court cupboard comes into 2 main pieces with the canted section lifting off the base. This allows you to move this around your home easily.
